The River Flows

The children’s song, Row Row Row Your Boat offers wise advice for creating your life. The song begins by telling us “row, row, row your boat gently down the stream.” When you think about your life as a river, it’s easier to see what is happening and where you can go next. It’s easier to imagine a life direction – to live a life of meaning and purpose. A river flowing is its meaning and purpose.

The song then tells us to row “merrily, merrily, merrily. Life is but a dream.” This doesn’t mean that you must smile and feel gratitude or pretend that bad things aren’t happening when bad things happen in your life.  The song is telling us to be sure that we have a place in nature where we can go and feel supported and nurtured. A place where we can dream.
